Collegiate quizbowl in Southern California is an active circuit comprised of schools from San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. There are two national tournaments each year, in addition to a wide variety of other events that range from novice tournaments to rigourous nationals-preparatory events.
The annual Sectional Collegiate Tournament (SCT) is the premier method of qualifying for NAQT’s Intercollegiate Championship Tournament (ICT). Schools throughout Southern California take turns hosting the SCT. Teams’ performances are assessed according to a statistic called the D-value, which is the primary means by which teams are awarded qualification to the ICT.
The annual ACF Regionals is the premier method of qualifying for the annual ACF Nationals tournament. Unlike the SCT, schools throughout Southern and Northern California compete at the same ACF Regionals tournament. Teams’ performances are assessed according to a similar statistic called A-value, by which they may qualify for ACF Nationals.
For the 2020-2021 collegiate season, the West Coast circuits will have unified mirrors. Tournaments on these dates are open to teams from the traditional circuits of Southern California, Arizona, Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Mountain West.
